At the heart of the HospitalityMaine apprenticeship program are the member businesses - restaurants and lodging facilities - who commit to host apprentices. The association has dedicated resources to make it as easy as possible for our Employer/Hosts to do what they do best, the on-the-job training for the entry level apprentice.
The Association is the interface with the Maine Department of Labor. We ensure that the documentation and record keeping are current and complete.
HospitalityMaine staff are here to help as needed.
The Employer/Host is responsible for:
-hiring her/his own employees and determining among those employees who shall participate in the apprentice training progam;
-assigning a qualified mentor/coach for each apprentice;
-ensuring the health and safety of the apprentice in the workplace;
-fair and equitable treatment of all apprentices;
-assessing the prior experience/learning of the apprentice upon entry into the program;
-providing the apprentice the opportunity to earn a raise or raises as skills are mastered;
-collaborating with classroom learning provider to monitor apprentice's classroom progress;
-updating HospitalityMaine of any changes in the status of an apprentice;
-determining when the apprentice has successfully completed their apprenticeship.
