PORTLAND, Maine — HospitalityMaine launches a groundbreaking apprentice program Wed., March 27th at the Maine Restaurant and Lodging Expo at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
The association's director of workforce development, Terry Hayes discusses the program designed to create a planned pathway to hotel and culinary careers in Maine.
Hayes is joined by Maine Department of Labor's apprenticeship specialist Eileen Miazga, who describes this "earn while you learn" program as a game changer for Maine's economy.
“Recruiting talent into the industry for a career path creates a foundation for the future," said Miazga, adding that HospitalityMaine is the largest association to launch such an ambitious apprenticeship program.
Charlie Collins, executive director for workforce training for Maine Community College System, calls HospitalityMaine two-track apprenticeship “a third choice students are not facing right now. It's a planned pathway."
Restaurant and hotel owners can sign up as an apprentice host location on March 27th at the EXPO. Learn more during two session: 10:30a and 2 p. More details here.
